Dr Devora Lieberman, fertility expert & menopause myth buster

This time our guest on Conversations with Annie & Kate is Dr Devora Lieberman. She is passionate about women’s health, is an acknowledged fertility specialist, and often writes and speaks about fertility-related issues to professional as well as consumer audiences.

Here are some of the sites Devora mentioned in the podcast:

Dr Devora Lieberman is Clinical Director of City Fertility’s Sydney CBD clinic, which opened in October last year.

She received her MD from SUNY Downstate, and trained in obstetrics and gynecology at The George Washington University. She joined the faculty at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston in 1994 and completed her Master’s in Public Health at Harvard in 1996.

Devora left her role as a lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at Harvard Medical School in 1998 to move Australia, when her fiancé told her: “There’s no surf in Boston Harbor”.

On arrival in Sydney, Devora worked in private IVF and public menopause clinics, when challenges with obtaining a Medicare provider number as an overseas trained doctor forced her out of the medical workforce for 3 years, during which time she was Associate Medical Director for Women’s Health at Organon (now MSD), responsible for profertility, menopause, and contraception.

In 2003 Devora joined Sydney IVF, now Genea, and returned to clinical work in IVF and miscarriage management.

She was President of Family Planning NSW for 12 years, is a past President of Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia and was a Director of the Fertility Society of Australia for eight years.

Written with life coach Claire Hall, Devora is co-author of Empowered Fertility: A Practical 12 Step Guide.

Devora’s passion is helping people who have been challenged by infertility. She understands that many couples she sees have tried other options and need her persistence and support to try to achieve a pregnancy and a healthy baby.

With social egg freezing now becoming increasingly popular, another strong focus for Devora is helping women have access to accurate and unbiased information about both their current fertility and their options for managing their fertility into the future.
